Mills College

Founded in 1852, Mills College is an independent liberal arts college in the Oakland foothills that has been a leader and innovator in advancing women’s education by cultivating the next generation of powerful and thoughtful women to become agents of change around the world.

MY WORK

Grant writer, consultant and trainer:

From 2013 to 2015, I supported grant strategy and development for funding programs and scholarships in the natural sciences, arts and education. As a result of my grant proposal work and project management, I helped Mills to renew funding with past institutional supporters and to achieve new awards. For example, an award by the Hearst Foundations helped to strengthen the capacity of a program for first generation students. Another award by the W.M. Keck Foundation strengthened the college’s environmental science programs to prepare more women from diverse backgrounds to assume leadership roles in the natural sciences that will help them take on tough environmental challenges. At the conclusion of my engagement, I provided a series of training workshops on best practices for institutional fund development.

IMPACT

“Before I even met Christine, I had heard from my colleagues about her excellent work as a grant writer. What I didn’t know until we began working together is how much expertise she brings as a corporate and foundation professional consultant on every level. Not only is her writing top-notch, but her knowledge of the corporate-foundation arena and strong networks within it is deep and wide-reaching. Whether it was a research project on identifying the best potential funders for a project, informing the scope and content of a proposal, collaborating with PI’s on projects or providing coaching to a young staff member on my team, Christine brings the highest level of expertise to what she does. It has been a wonderful learning experience working with her; her input and feedback through the proposal process has always been instrumental to the success of the grants our organization has received. She is a fabulous team-player who is extremely passionate and committed to her work. “
